Making a Marketing Site Answer-Engine-Ready Without a Redesign

A B2B marketing site had strong content but poor technical SEO/AEO health, so it rarely got cited by AI answer engines. Here's how it got fixed without touching the visual design.

The situation

The content itself wasn't the problem — the writing was genuinely good, written by people who understood the subject. But the site was slow to render, its metadata was thin or missing on most pages, and there was no structured data anywhere, which meant search engines and AI answer engines alike had a hard time understanding what any given page was actually about, let alone citing it confidently.

The marketing team's instinct was to commission a redesign. That would have been expensive, slow, and — since the actual problem was technical, not visual — largely beside the point.

The approach

We scoped the engagement to the technical layer only. Rendering and Core Web Vitals issues came first, since a page that loads slowly or shifts around while loading gets penalized by both search ranking and simple user patience, regardless of how good the words on it are. Pages were then restructured around clear entity definitions and FAQs — not rewritten, but reorganized so the existing content answered specific questions in a form a crawler or an answer engine could parse cleanly, the same shape used on this site's own FAQ sections.

Structured data — schema markup describing what each page is, what organization published it, and what questions it answers — was added across the site last, layered on top of the existing HTML rather than requiring any template rebuild. None of this touched the visual design the marketing team had already invested in.

The outcome

Pages became both faster for human visitors and easier for search and answer engines to parse and cite accurately, and the marketing team kept the visual design they'd already invested in rather than needing to justify a redesign budget for what was, underneath, a technical health problem.
